The Woodlands Whirlwinds!

A group of children have been given a very exciting opportunity to build a Goblin G2 car as part of an after school club with Miss Wey!

This page will allow you to keep up to date with our weekly progress blogs and pictures of our build as we race towards race day on 20th June 2020!

All content will be written and managed by the children as they take ownership of their build.

The Application Process

There was lots of competition to become part of the team. We all gave Miss Wey our applications and she had a big job to do to sort through them all and choose her final team. We had to commit to staying after school and make sure we all were available for our race day as part of our application.

Week 1

What we completed:
Miss Wey explained to us a little bit more about the project and explained how to follow the codes on the plans to find the parts. We were all very excited to get moving! Rhys, Lacey, Lilly and Poppy build the seat whilst Louis, Jacob, Lily and Delcie built the first part of the chassis.

Challenges:
We found aligning the seat hard as we were working on it from both sides.
We found tightening the bolts on the chassis tricky as the nuts were hard to reach.

Actions:
Leigh is going to bring us in some more tools next week!

Week 2

What we completed:
Trevor, en engineer, attended the session today. Delcie, Poppy and Rhys designed our logo and came up with our name and slogan:
“Woodlands Whirlwinds - like a tornado, just more rapid”
They also agreed on font styles and colours for logos, T-shirt’s etc.
Louis, Lily, Jacob and Lacey continued with the chassis and attached the seat with Trevor.

Challenges
We didn't know how we could make a digital copy of our logo design

Actions:
Send letters to companies to ask about logo and T-shirt design
Speak to digital leaders about any apps we have for our logo design

Week 2

Week 3

What we completed:

Our main structure of the car is finished. We added out roll bar and battery casing to the back of the car. We also talked about the design of our car. We wantit to be red with our logo on the front and tornadoes on both sides to match our slogan.

Challenges:

There were 2 bolts that we could not put in, they were too hard!

Actions:

An engineer is visiting us next week and we have kept the bolts out of the box so that he can hopefully help us when he comes.
